Your doctor has requested that pictures of your large bowel be taken.

Please follow these simple instructions so that we may best serve you.

1. The prep for Barium Enema is Fleet Prep #1.
2. Outpatients please purchase this kit at your local pharmacy and follow the instructions provided with the kit. You may take your medications with a sip of water. For inpatients the Fleet Prep Kit #1 will be stocked in your medication pyxis. Please follow instructions provided with kit. You may take your medications with a sip of water.
3. Report to Radiology approximately 20 minutes before your scheduled time if you have not been contacted by the Admitting Office.
4. Barium will be given rectally and pictures will be taken.
5. This exam will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
6. Eat normally after your exam, however, you will need to force fluids for 24 hours unless you have been advised to restrict fluids for medical reasons.
