Nuclear Medicine Imaging Services

Midstate Radiology Associates, LLC offers two types of nuclear medicine imaging services at our two convenient locations in Meriden and Wallingford. Our nuclear medicine capabilities allow us to capture detailed imagery of the workings of internal organs so that we can differentiate between healthy and abnormal tissues. Our techniques minimize the body's exposure to short-lived, radioactive isotopes while ensuring that the testing is done right. Nuclear Medicine Imaging Services in CT

What is Nuclear Medicine?

Nuclear medicine procedures use very small amounts of radioactive pharmaceuticals that are introduced into the body. Depending on the type of procedure, the radiopharmaceuticals may be injected, inhaled, or ingested. Because these are attracted to specific organs or tissues, the information gathered during a nuclear medicine procedure can be more comprehensive than other radiological procedures, describing both organ function and structure. The result is that many diseases can be better evaluated.

Since nuclear medicine procedures generally utilize small doses of short-lived isotopes (ones that only stay radioactive for a few hours or days), the amount of radiation received is generally low. And since the radiopharmaceutical is targeted toward a specific tissue or organ, whole body and healthy tissue doses are minimized.
